State Waives JCPS District Leadership Assessment

The Kentucky Board of Education has agreed Wednesday to waive a district leadership assessment for Jefferson County Public Schools. The district commissioned its own report last year as part of a curriculum management audit. JCPS is now being allowed to use that report in place of the state review, which is required by law. The state’s district leadership assessments are meant to provide corrective actions for districts with low performing schools.Independent agency Phi Delta Kappa International spent time in the JCPS last fall visiting every school and interviewing hundreds of personnel.JCPS officials said they made the request to prevent another assessment that may take up class time. State officials are expected to review the audit and, if needed, visit the district to follow up.KDE board officials said Wednesday the district’s audit is possibly more comprehensive than what the state would have provided and they commended JCPS for being transparent throughout the reporting process.
