The Louisville Courier-Journal concurred with Republican gubernatorial candidate David Williams in a weekend editorial, chastising Democratic Governor Steve Beshear for pretending to snub President Barack Obama during his recent visit to Kentucky.Last month, it was revealed the governor did not receive a formal invitation to participate when Mr. Obama visited Fort Campbell. However, Beshear's office never mentioned that fact when several reporters questioned why he missed the opportunity to attend a meeting with the president and to honor the Navy SEALS who killed Osama bin Laden.Quoting Williams, the newspaper's editorial board said the governor engaged in “a cynical effort to gain favor with Kentucky voters " who disapprove of the president. From the Courier-Journal:We called the Governor “the Artful Dodger” for snubbing Mr. Obama. We can think of worse names in view of the facts that now have been revealed.

In his column ... commentator Al Cross notes that Mr. Beshear does intend to endorse his party's president for re-election. That's big of him. Our question is, why bother? Our position on this president and his policies is equally clear. Gov. Beshear ought to be ashamed of the way that he conducted himself. Cynical indeed.
