The Kentucky Board of Education's annual retreat begins Wednesday. The board will spend two days in Frankfort reviewing budgets, school assessment plans, and other issues.Department of Education spokesperson Lisa Gross says Senate Bill One, signed into law last year, will be among the topics discussed. The legislation updated the testing and assessment policy for schools, and Gross says the new standards are still being fine-tuned."The board will probably hear a little bit of information about how the design for those tests is coming along," she says. "Of course, they're not completed—they won't be implemented until the 2011-2012 school year, but there's a lot of work being done on those, so they'll hear about that."Budgets and the economy will also be discussed. The education funding formula known as SEEK was not changed by the General Assembly in the new state budget, but Gross says other cuts will affect education.
