The Republican caucus of the Louisville Metro Council has not yet put forward a candidate for the council presidency.Democratic Councilman Tom Owen declared his candidacy earlier this month. Republican spokesperson Steve Haag says Councilman Ken Fleming is considering a bid, but it will take bipartisan support to win."Well if the Democratic Caucus supports one candidate, they will win," says Haag. "But as in the past, we've had opportunities where Republicans, who are in the minority, have been able to capture enough votes to win and I think that's one of the things Councilman Fleming is taking into account."Haag says Fleming will likely make a decision early next week. The council will elect a president at its meeting next Thursday. The winner will replace outgoing President David Tandy, a Democrat. Presidential terms are one year.
