Louisville’s Wayside Christian Mission has a new home for its women and families shelter. The mission purchased a former Holiday Inn on Broadway in a foreclosure auction yesterday.Wayside Christian Mission tried to renovate its current East Market campus, but met neighborhood opposition. It also encountered opposition with the attempted purchase of the Mercy Academy building on East Broadway.Spokesperson Nina Moseley says the purchase of the ‘Hotel Louisville’ at Broadway and 2nd Street for ten million dollars puts the mission on track to move out of its East Market location.“Hopefully, we’ll be in there, up and operating by the end of the summer, so our folks will have decent space by the time the winter crunch hits," says Moseley.Another bidder had planned to raze the structure because it contains asbestos, but spokesperson Nina Moseley says the building is in generally good shape.“We’ve done all of our due diligence," says Moseley. "As a matter of fact, we had the heating and air conditioning system inspected as well as all of the other mechanicals, we had our folks in there, so we know exactly what’s at the building, we know what it’s going to take, and we’re just so pleased that we were able to obtain it.”The new location on Broadway replaces their current campus on East Market Street.
