Swine flu has not reached Kentucky schools, but the Department of Education is taking steps to prevent a potential outbreak. For the most part, the department is treating swine flu like any other flu. They've asked superintendents to stress hygiene and to be on the lookout for sick students.Spokesperson Lisa Gross says the measures are only precautions, and no health officials have warned of a possible outbreak in the schools."We're relying on our department of health for a lot of the information," she says. "And of course the Kentucky Department of Health is in contact with officials at the federal level. At this point there aren't any mandates to quarantine folks or to separate them in any way."A woman from Kentucky tested positive for the illness while visiting Georgia this week, and health officials say there’s another probable case of swine flu in western Kentucky.
