Jeremy Zucker: "Art exists between the intent of the artist and the experience of the listener"

Jeremy Zucker

Jeremy Zucker on ‘Love Is Not Dying’ and the Therapy of Songwriting

Jeremy Zucker doesn’t just write songs—he builds worlds. On Love Is Not Dying, his latest album, the singer-songwriter crafts a seamless experience where each song bleeds into the next, creating a conceptual journey through love, loss, and self-discovery. “Making this album changed my life,” Zucker says. “Each song was like a therapy session, helping me process emotions I didn’t even realize I had.”

Unlike the scattered nature of singles and EPs, Zucker approached this record as a cohesive piece, carefully curating its sonic and emotional flow. “It’s not chronological, but it tells a story,” he explains. “I wanted the transitions to feel natural, like you’re being pulled from one moment to the next.”

That fluidity extends to his instrumentation. A guitarist by trade, Zucker intentionally shifted focus to keys, even teaching himself piano while writing. “I didn’t want guitars to be passive. When they appear, they have to mean something,” he says, pointing to the cathartic climax of Lakehouse as a prime example.

Lyrically, the album explores everything from navigating a relationship with someone battling addiction (Not Your Friend) to the overwhelming beauty and destruction of love (Julia). Though written pre-pandemic, some tracks have taken on unexpected resonance in the current climate. “People have told me certain songs hit differently now,” he says. “That’s the power of music—it evolves with the listener.”

Zucker’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric, with Come Thru catapulting him to fame in Southeast Asia and streaming numbers stacking in the hundreds of millions. But he’s not chasing hits. “I just want to make the best music possible,” he says. “Success is great, but the real reward is knowing people connect with it.”

And connect they have. Love Is Not Dying proves Zucker isn’t just making music—he’s making art that lingers long after the last note fades.
